Westminster Fundraiser for CF!

The Westminster Student Youth Board team is wrapping books at the Buckhead Borders (across from Phipps) every Sat, Sun and Mon until Christmas from 4-9:00. They have even recruited some of their teachers to wrap the weekend before their exams! All donations are going to their fundraiser for CF CureFinders. Great idea - I stopped by on Saturday, and they were busy wrapping books. If you're in the area, stop in and support them and CF! Together, you are all working towards raising funds to find a cure and control for CF - to "add tomorrows everyday" for all our CF patients and their families.

Summary of Meeting 11/15

Thanks to everyone who came to our meeting on Sunday! Here's an overview of what happened:

Bryan Jones--a CF dad, volleyball coach at Pope High School, and teacher at David Elementary School--spoke to us about his son Bryce's diagnosis. Bryce was diagnosed with CF at two weeks old, but is now doing well and is 16 months old. Bryan told us how his family's lives have been changed and described a typical day for Bryce and other CF children.

Bryan also told us about his school's fundraiser and how wonderful the final celebration was with Chipper Jones, Waffle House, and many of our Youth Board members in attendence. His school, Davis Elementary, was last year's winner after raising $6,000 during a week of "Jar Wars," where the children brought in pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, quarters on Thursday, and then bills and checks on Friday. They also sold "breathe" bracelets and had a "hat day," during which students were allowed to wear a hat to school for $1.

After Bryan spoke, students shared and discussed their fundraising ideas. Julianna Grant from Milledgeville thinks she will do "Jeans for Genes" again--last year she raised $2,000 with this fundraiser. The Westminster group is planning to giftwrap books at Borders Bookstore from November 28th-December 21st and also ask for donations at the Alternative Gift Fair. They are also considering throwing a party for which the entry fee will be donated to the CFF. They also have an assembly scheduled for February 5th and have asked Rachel Scott's sister, Sarah, to speak to the student body about what it is like to live with CF. Along with this assembly, the girls will have informational displays outside the dining hall. Vijay and Connor from Lambert High School are planning a drive-in movie and tailgate for CF, Jeremy Heinrich from Lakeside High School is going to arrange a charity golf tournament with his golf team, and the girls from Archer High School are also planning a party with an admission fee to go to CF.

We discussed a date for the Chipper Jones appearance, which will probably be on April 28th, 29th, or 30th.

The next meeting will be held on January 24th at either the CF office or Fidelity Bank at Perimeter.

Linda brought some really nice t-shirts that were left over from the Wish for Wendy Softball Tournament. They are white with gray or burgundy writing and say 65 Roses on the front and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on the back. The cost is $20 and you can contact Linda Murphy at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation if you would like one.

Again, thanks so so much to everyone who made it out to the meeting!
